The young woman of the western village; not yet betrothed to any. Her will like cast-off garments; she does not leave her chamber. Her heart has no settled place; what fault lies with the chaperone?

注释
澤滅木，大過之象。西鄰少女，未有所許——西家女子尚未許嫁。志如委衣，不出房戶——心志如棄衣，無所寄託，不出閨門。心無所處，傅母何咎——心無歸屬，豈能怪傅母？此詩寫意志之癱瘓：女子年當嫁而不能決，困於猶豫而非囚於牆壁。從大過至小畜（風行天上），過重之壓縮為柔弱之約束——風行天上，輕撫而不能撼動。少女之不動正如此象：力量存在而不能施展，小畜之「畜」反成桎梏。
