雷在天上，五烏六鴟相對蹲跂——猛禽面面相覷，對峙不下。禮讓不興——禮教廢弛。虞芮爭訟——虞、芮二國爭地，入周境見民相讓而恥其爭。此為文王德化之典。然詩中反用此典：無文王之德，則鳥獸只能相瞪不已。從大壯至歸妹，澤上有雷：衝動之結合，非依禮而行。壯力若無禮讓之約束，非解決紛爭而是製造永無止境之對峙。虞芮終靠德化而非力裁。
