Creeping plants grow on the stump; thorns catch and snag my beard. Petty men are jealous and envious; they prevent kindness from reaching its end.

山上有水，蹇之象。蒙生株瞿——朽木上生出寄生之物。棘掛我須——荊棘掛住我的鬍鬚。小人妒嫉——小人因妒而作梗。使恩不遂——令善意無法達成。此為阻撓式之蹇：路不僅難行，且充滿敵意，荊棘與嫉妒者合力阻斷善舉。從蹇至旅，山上有火，明慎用刑而不留獄。旅人在異鄉每步皆險，當地之敵意可使旅途成災。鬍鬚被掛正是旅人之噩夢——被瑣碎障礙絆住，而惡意者在旁確保任務失敗。謹慎與明斷為旅人僅有之鎧甲。
