雲上於天，需之等待。雌單獨居，歸其本巢——孤鳥還巢，無雄相伴。毛羽憔悴，志如死灰——「心如死灰」出《莊子·齊物論》，形容心意全然熄滅，不復有感。失偶之鳥連梳理羽毛之意都已喪失，孤寂至極。從需至否（天地不交），等待之養轉為天地閉塞之困：天上行而地下沉，陰陽永不相遇。孤鳥之寂滅即否卦宇宙離散之縮影，生機趨於枯寂。
