兼山為艮。原詩：逐狐東山，水遏我前。深不可涉，失利後便。狐狡捷引獵者至深水，追逐徒勞。從艮至臨（澤上有地），雙山化為地臨澤上之象，權威由上而近。然詩否認接近之可能：水深不可渡，獵物逃脫，追者反居下風。山之靜本應教人忍耐，獵者卻急於行動。臨之道唯在地基穩固時方有效，貿然涉入未知之深淵，反喪主動。
