兼山為艮，葵丘之盟——前651年齊桓公稱霸之盟。晉獻會行，遣使赴會。然見太宰而辭——被拒之門外，復為還輿。晉獻公時重病纏身，國內又逢驪姬之亂，代表被拒絕參盟。從艮至萃（澤上於地），山化為人群匯聚之象。詩捕捉的是被排斥於聚會之外：抵達會場卻不得入。靜止非莊嚴而是被集體疏離。
