九四 无咎。弗過遇之。往厲必戒。勿用永貞。
Nine in the fourth place means: No blame. He meets him without passing by. Going brings danger. One must be on guard. Do not act. Be constantly persevering.

山上有雷，小過之征。六月采芑——六月採收苦蒿，出《詩經·采芑》，記方叔征伐玁狁之事。征伐无道——討伐不義之敵。張仲方叔——張仲為謀臣，方叔為周宣王時名將（827-782年前）。剋敵飲酒——克敵後飲酒慶功。采芑既是收穫亦是動員之隱喻。從小過至未濟（火在水上），雷化為火在水上之未濟——事尚未成。勝已得、酒已舉，然伐亂之業永無真正完成。每場凱旋中蘊含下一次挑戰之種子。
