Yilin Verse

Commentary
Heaven and earth refuse to communicate, yet the eastern neighbor's daughter is married to become queen consort. Duke Zhuang builds a hall to honor the bride's mother, and she is escorted to the capital, where Lady Ji Jiang rejoices. The verse draws on the Spring and Autumn tradition of political marriages between the eastern state of Qi (Jiang clan) and the western Zhou-lineage states. Duke Zhuang's construction of a guesthouse to honor the mother-in-law reflects the Zhou ritual propriety that sealed such alliances. From Standstill to After Completion, Pi's sealed world transforms into water above fire — Jiji's image of all elements perfectly positioned. The wedding achieves Jiji's harmony: fire and water cooperate, the political alliance is sealed, and the bride's joy confirms cosmic order restored.
