Yilin Verse
正陽之央,甲氏以亡;禍及留吁,湮滅為墟。
At the zenith of the bright yang; the clan of Jia perishes. Disaster reaches Liu and Yu; they are buried and reduced to ruins.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Heaven and fire form Fellowship, but the blazing center destroys its own periphery. At the height of yang's dominance, the Jia clan is extinguished; calamity reaches Liuyu, reduced to rubble and wasteland. In 593 BC, the state of Jin under its general destroyed the Red Di tribes — Jia, Liuyu, and Duochen — erasing these frontier peoples from the map. From Fellowship to Gathering, the transformation reveals a disturbing logic. The lake gathers upon the earth in Gathering as the noble man prepares weapons against the unexpected. What gathers here is not peaceful assembly but the concentrated force of a powerful state, and what it gathers against are entire peoples. Fellowship wielded as conquest becomes annihilation.
