吾有八人,信允篤誠,為堯所舉。
I have eight men, trustworthy, sincere, and earnest; they were raised up by Yao.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Fire within the lake yields to wind emerging from fire — the Family, where inner warmth radiates outward as gentle influence. 'I have eight men, trustworthy and sincere, recommended by Yao.' This alludes to the legendary 'Eight Worthies' (八元) raised by Emperor Yao — or possibly the combined Sixteen (八元八愷), the virtuous ministers whom the sage-king elevated to bring order to the realm. From Revolution to the Family, the transformation reveals that after upheaval, governance is rebuilt through trusted personnel. Wind from fire: the warmth of a well-ordered household radiates outward when its members are chosen for integrity, not for faction.
