Great King was the father; King Ji was filial and brotherly. Wen and Wu were sagely and wise; benevolent rule arose. Dan brought the four states to greatness, bearing blessings rich and deep.

Commentary
Fire within the lake transforms into clouds gathering over heaven — abundance waits in readiness. King Tai served as patriarch, King Ji practiced filial devotion and fraternal love, and Kings Wen and Wu brought sage wisdom and benevolent rule. The Duke of Zhou elevated four neighboring states, spreading fortune thick and deep. This verse traces the Zhou royal lineage across four generations: from Taiwang (King Tai, the Great King) through Wang Ji, to Wen and Wu, culminating in the Duke of Zhou's consolidation. Revolution here is not violent overthrow but generational cultivation. From Revolution to Waiting, the transformation shows that the greatest changes unfold over lifetimes, patient as clouds forming before rain.
