Yilin Verse
精誠所在,神為人輔。德教之中,彌世長久。三聖乃興,多受福祉。
Where sincerity resides, the spirits aid humankind. Within the teaching of virtue, the world endures long. Three sages arise, receiving abundant blessings.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Fire within the lake transforms into wind above the lake — Inner Truth, where sincerity reaches even pigs and fishes. Utmost sincerity draws the spirits themselves to assist mortals. Within the teaching of virtue and morality, this influence endures across generations. Three sages arise, receiving abundant blessings. The 'three sages' most likely refers to the Zhou founding triad — Wen, Wu, and the Duke of Zhou — whose accumulated virtue built a dynasty that lasted eight centuries. Inner Truth's hallmark is sincerity so deep it moves the numinous. From Revolution to Inner Truth, the transformation reveals that lasting revolution succeeds not through force but through moral conviction so genuine that heaven itself responds.
