Commentary
Fire above water, and two ancient ministers bring order to the world. Bo Hu and Zhong Xiong, radiant in virtue and righteousness, spread the Five Teachings so that yin and yang follow their proper sequence. According to the Zuo Zhuan (Duke Wen, Year 18), Bo Hu and Zhong Xiong were among the 'Eight Originals' (八元) — eight talented sons of Emperor Ku, whom Emperor Shun appointed to disseminate the Five Teachings of filial piety, fraternal respect, and social harmony. From Before Completion to Dispersion, fire-over-water transforms into wind moving above water. Dispersion's image is the ancient king establishing temples and offering sacrifice — restoring cohesion through ritual. The Eight Originals' civilizing mission is precisely this: scattering virtue across the realm so that the dispersed elements realign.
