山下出泉，蒙之象也。履位乘勢者並無驟然之敗亡，然皆為隸圉，與眾庶伍——昔日之貴族淪為僕役，混跡於庶民之中。衰落非如雷擊，乃如水蝕：無聲無息，地位一層層剝落。從蒙至剝，山附於地：剝之象為逐漸崩解，一爻一爻被陰所侵蝕。權貴之墮落非一朝一夕，而是緩慢的降格，直到與昔日的僕從平起平坐。蒙者不知此消彼長之理，待覺時已身在泥塵。
