山下出泉，蒙之象也。天厭周德，命與仁國——天命轉移，棄失德者而授有仁者。以禮靖民，兵革休息。此即天命觀之核心：德衰則命去，德盛則命來。從蒙至大畜，天在山中：大畜者，多識前言往行以畜其德，蓄積而不妄動。新受命之國非以武力征服，乃以禮教化民，將力量蓄於文化而非消耗於戰爭。蒙昧初開之泉水匯入山中之天——天命的承接需要的不是英雄的揮戈，而是聖王的涵養。
