山下出泉，蒙之象也。小狐渡水，濡濕其尾，所得甚微，然與道合契——利雖薄而不違正道。小狐涉水之象見於《易經》未濟卦：「小狐汔濟，濡其尾。」此處語氣較緩：小得小失，猶能守正。從蒙至師，地中有水：師者，容民畜眾，紀律之源。蒙稒之人經小挫折而學得謹慎，如水蓄於地中，靜候調遣。小狐濡尾非大敗，乃初學者之必經；能於小失中悟道，方可統眾御兵。
