The magpie longs for her mate; wishing to follow the phoenix east. Grooming her feathers; departing must await the right day. Delayed in the northern village; she returns to her nest.

注释
澤上有風，中孚之信。鵲思其雄——雌鵲思念其配偶。欲隨鳳東——欲隨鳳凰東飛。順理羽翼——整理羽毛以備行。出次須日——待吉日而行，然日期未至。中留北邑，復歸其室——滯留北方小城，終歸舊居。詩寫思慕、準備、延宕、歸返之完整循環。從中孚至歸妹（澤上有雷），誠信遇嫁娶之象。然此處婚途未成：禮需合時，時不至則情再真亦須讓步。鵲終歸巢，歸妹之行落空。
