地中有水，師之象。玄黃虺隤——馬病力竭之狀，呼應《詩經》征馬疲弊之嘆。行者勞罷，役夫憔悴，踰時不歸：征夫疲憊不堪，早已過期未返。此為兵卒之怨的極致：無盡之勞役，無望之歸途。從師至臨（澤上有地），臨者居上而臨下，本當教思無窮、容保民無疆。然此處統御之責已被棄擲，民力耗盡而上不知恤。
