地中有水，師之象，然水已涸。久旱水涸，枯槁無澤——長期乾旱，水源枯竭，萬物枯萎。虛修其德，未有所獲——空自修德而無所收穫。有功無酬之苦悶：旱季修身，不見成果。從師至大壯（雷在天上），雷震天上，威力浩大。然此詩反其意——力無潤澤則為虛壯。軍旅之蓄水已盡，蠻力無養分只會自我耗竭。大壯亦須有所滋養方能行事。
