地中有水，師之象。范子妙材，戮辱傷膚——才華卓絕之范子，遭受肉刑侮辱，皮肉受傷。此指范雎（范睢），戰國時魏人，被誣通敵，相國魏齊令人將其鞭笞幾死，投入茅廁。後化名張祿逃入秦國。然後相國，封為應侯——終為秦昭襄王拜為相國，封於應邑為應侯，提出遠交近攻之策。從師至井（木上有水），井水汲上以養萬民而不遷移。范雎之遭遇恰如井之性質：才華埋藏於深處，終經正途汲取，服務於上方之社稷。
