六四 外比之。貞吉。

仁智隱伏，麟不可得。龍蛇潛藏，虛居堂室。
Benevolence and wisdom lie hidden; the qilin cannot be found. Dragon and serpent conceal themselves; the hall and chamber stand empty.

注释
地上有水，比也，本應聚攏賢才。然此詩盡寫隱伏之象。仁智隱伏，麟不可得——賢者藏匿，祥瑞不現。龍蛇潛藏，虛居堂室——龍蛇退隱深淵，廟堂空虛無人。此與西狩獲麟之典相呼應：麟不出則無聖世。龍蛇潛藏亦應乾初九「潛龍勿用」——才德隱而不發，時機未至。從比至同人（天與火），本應光照天下、同類相聚，然詩示聚合未成。聯盟之勢俱在，但賢者不出，則萬事虛設。
