Loaches and shrimp leave the sea, hiding in a withered village. The lanes and alleys are narrow and cramped; one cannot move at ease. South and north are vastly far; thirst and hunger bring illness.

注释
地中有山，然此處水生之物離海。鰌鰕去海，藏於枯里——泥鰍和蝦離開大海，藏身枯涸之穴中。街巷褊隘，不得自在——狹巷逼仄，無處容身。南北極遠，渴餒成疾——南北相隔極遠，飢渴交迫而致病。水族離水喻才士失所——在乾涸巷弄中喘息，不得游於汪洋。從謙至明夷（明入地中），光明沒入地下，遭受掩蔽。此詩體現明夷之核心悲劇：英才被迫蟄伏地下，困於窄室，與本然之境隔絕。謙之地不是庇護而是窒息，暗中之光如枯渠中之泥鰍——活著，僅此而已。
