Fighting over the chicken, losing the sheep; profit gained does not last. The troubles of Chen and Cai; they relied on Chu for safety.

注释
隨風巽，化為天地不交之否。爭雞失羊，利得不長——因小利而爭，反失大利，所獲轉瞬即逝。陳蔡之患，賴楚以安——孔子厄於陳蔡之間，絕糧七日，弟子饑病，終賴楚昭王遣人迎接方得解困。兩則警示並列：一為貪小失大之戒，一為聖人亦困於政治僵局。從巽至否（天地不交），上下隔絕，風之感化再不能穿透。連孔子之道德感召力尚且不能動天下，困於兩國之間而須借外力破局，可見否塞之深。
