電雷噬嗑，明罰之卦。奇適無偶，習靖獨處——無配之人安於孤獨。所願不從，心思勞苦。「奇」即無偶、不成雙之意。此非劇烈之悲，乃希望漸消之鈍痛。從噬嗑至大過（澤滅木），澤淹木上，結構過載。獨行者承受雙人之重，棟樑因之而撓。無伴而負過重之責，即大過之象：一人之力不堪所托。
